Not All Sunscreens Are Created Equal

TIZO sunscreens are always mineral based. In fact, TIZO stands for Titanium Zinc Oxide. Learn how Minerals perform on the surface of your skin and provide superior skin benefits.

SPF Quick Facts

SPF merely addresses the UVB wavelength; not UVA.

SPF: Sun Protection Factor – the factor by which the amount of time it takes for a sunburn to occur is increased when sunscreen is used versus when skin is left unprotected.

Broad Spectrum

Sunscreen that provides coverage from both UVA & UVB rays. TIZO contains only the top two sunscreen filters: Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.

Zinc Oxide is the only active sunscreen ingredient that provides full spectrum coverage of UVB and long and short UVA rays by itself.
Titanium Dioxide is the next best ingredient that covers both UVA and UVB, although it does not cover long UVA rays.
Chemical Sunscreens are limited in their protection and need to be combined in order to accomplish what Zinc Oxide can do alone.

UVA Rays

  • Penetrates deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer.
  • Responsible for pigmentation changes and photodamage: dryness, uneven pigmentation, inflammation, fine wrinkles.
  • Same strength all year round during daylight hours, even in winter and on cloudy days. Can penetrate glass.
  • UVA exposure has been linked to the development of basal and squamous cell cancers.
  • Damage from UVA rays are cumulative, and generally, the effects will not appear until years after exposure.

UVB Rays

  • Only penetrates the skin’s surface.
  • Cause of initial appearance of sunburn.
  • Strongest during the spring and summer from 10 am to 4 pm, and on sunny days.
  • The underlying damage accumulates, resulting in basal and squamous cell cancers.
  • Exposure to UVB is responsible for premature aging to the skin.

Skincare Ingredients

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Antioxidants C & E

Antioxidants are molecules that help neutralize free radicals and protects skin by helping to block damaging reactions to skin cells. The ideal sunscreen should contain antioxidants. They reduce the damaging effects of Reactive Oxygen Species.

Arbutin

Natural extract found in wheat, pear, and bearberry skins that aids in brightening the skin.

Bisabolol

Chamomile extract that is soothing to the skin and acts as an anti-irritant.

Ceramides

Ceramides are a lipid molecule that our bodies produce naturally. As we age, our skin does not produce them as well, so there is a need to replenish them. When used in skin care, they support the renewal of the skin’s natural protective layer, improve skin smoothness, and aid in repairing dry skin conditions by helping to retain moisture.

Cucumber Extract

A skin conditioner and anti-inflammatory that has an extreme soothing effect on the skin. It helps to calm puffy skin.

Dimethicone

This moisturizing ingredient protects skin from pollution, dryness, and cracking.

Glycerin

A humectant that draws moisture to the skin. It forms a protective barrier over the skin and helps lock in the moisture.

Hyaluronic Acid

Found naturally in the body, primarily in the skin and eyes, hyaluronic acid helps moisturize and condition the skin by helping to retain moisture, replenish the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), and reduce redness.

Hydrocurcumin

A colorless ingredient derived from Turmeric that is used to brighten skin that can also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Iron Oxide

We most commonly encounter iron oxides in cosmetics via cover-up tinting. They come available in a variety of shades including red, yellow, brown, and black. We use it for the purpose of tinting our products, making them versatile for virtually all skin tones.

Multi Peptide Complex

We use Matrixyl 3000™, a blend of two peptides to help the skin. This helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin thickness, tone, and elasticity.

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3 that helps brighten and maintain even skin tone; helps prevent moisture loss and increase the production of ceramides. Often used to help manage acne, rosacea, pigmentation issues, and wrinkles.

Retinol Complex

Uses: A blend of Vitamin A designed to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles with low irritation and extended release. Aids in exfoliation and accelerating skin cell turnover.

Taurine

An amino acid that is naturally found in your body, but your skin sometimes needs additional amounts of it. It offers antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing benefits.

Titanium Dioxide

Protects from Broad Spectrum UVA-UVB light without harsh chemicals. Gentle on the skin.

Zinc Oxide

Protects from Broad Spectrum UVA-UVB light without harsh chemicals. Zinc oxide has been used topically for centuries as a skin protectant and wound healing agent. It is unique in its ability to protect from long and short UVA rays and UVB rays by itself. Great for sensitive skin.

Why Choose TIZO Mineral Protection

Elegant Textures:
TIZO Mineral Sunscreens are made with ingredients that are formulated to feel soft and light.

Best Ingredients:
All TIZO Mineral Sunscreen are made with raw materials that are “best available”, meaning they are medical grade quality.

Free of:
All chemical sunscreen filters, dyes, parabens, gluten, phthalates, preservatives.

UVA/UVB Reflection:
Mineral sunscreen filters reflect UVA and UVB rays away from the skin, whereas chemical sunscreen filters absorb those rays.

Versatile for All Skin Types and Tones:
TIZO has multiple products that work for all skin types, including acne-prone, rosacea prone, dry, and oily and for all skin tones without leaving a white mask.

Lays on top of the skin:
Mineral sunscreen ingredients lay on top of the skin. Some chemical sunscreen ingredients have been proven to absorb into the skin and bloodstream.

Mineral is G.R.A.S.E.:
Per the new proposed FDA sunscreen regulations, only mineral sunscreen ingredients zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are G.R.A.S.E. (Generally Recognized As Safe and Effective). The 12 chemical sunscreen ingredients currently in use in the United States have insufficient data to make a positive G.R.A.S.E. determination. The FDA is requesting that additional testing be done on all 12 chemical ingredients.

Reef Safe:
Mineral sunscreen ingredients are reef friendly. Although the only two ingredients have been banned in Hawaii and Key West are oxybenzone and octinoxate, we believe that the safest option for our earth is to choose a mineral sunscreen.
